WARNING: If you log out in a boat, and someone happens to move the boat, you will be stuck in the water unable to move, unless you swim which is very dangerous.

On top of being the fastest mode of nautical transportation, a rowboat can hold up to two liftable items (such as containers or constructions) and travel almost twice as fast as a sprinting character in water. Rowboats can also carry up to two people, a navigator and a passenger, and are liftable themselves but cannot be placed inside other Rowboats, Carts, Wagons or other similar objects.
To board a rowboat, right-click on the boat and select "Avast". When you are ready to leave the rowboat, you must press Ctrl+left-click in the direction you wish to get out. If you have swimming, be careful you do not select to get out into deep water while swimming is enabled (disabled by default) or you may accidentally drown. Those without the Swimming skill do not need to worry since the game will prevent you from exiting the rowboat into deep water without the skill.

- Rowboats can only be built on land.
- Rowboats cannot carry animals or vehicles; a Raft must be used to transport large livestock or wagons.
- You can pick up objects while in a boat, such as other boats or objects on the shoreline, but you can only drop them once you have exited the boat.
- There is an exploit related to boats, placing a full tanning tub with an item, then removing the tub results in the item's progress being immediately brought to 98%.
